College courses. CAD/Drafting, Carpentry, Cosmetology? I am 28 female and I feel awkward because I really love carpentry, I live in a small town and Carpentry has always been "males", I would like to go but afraid of being rejected. My mom tells me to do something fun like cosmetology. Ugh.. i don't want that. doesn't sound interesting. I love old houses, I enjoy remodeling/repairing homes. I enjoy building things. I was torn inbetween carpentry and drafting. I would love to be able to ged a degree in CAD. I would like to hear from people who're in CAD/ Drafting, Carpentry and Cosmetology. Let me know your good thoughts about it and any horror stories you may have. I go to the college Wed to take my math/english assesment test's. I know, some may say I'm too old to go to college but atleast I'm going! I obtained my GED in Dec. Now, I want to make something with my life.I'm located in Centralia, IL Cosmetology does sound fun, but is it really a good business to build a life with?
Can someone provide me with the college advise I need? I don't think my GPA is high enough to get into 4 year college, so I was planning on going to J. Sarge for 2 years and transferring to a better one. I need to be in a college with a carpentry or construction program. Does anyone know if J.Sarge has a program like that? What should I do.....Just thinking about it has stressed me out!!
Is carpentry classes in college rated at a 100 level class so I can join the air force? I am trying to join the air force and they said since I have a g.e.d. that I need 15 credits that are at a 100 level credit. The class is a college course and I will receive 15 credits through the course but will they be at a 100 level? I believe that it is at a 100 level all of the classes start with 111,112,113 and so on and they are all 3 credit classes I was just not sure if they were at a 100 level so since it has 100 in it is that how they conside it a 100 level? I know it sounds stupid but I just want to make sure before I take these classes, and I want to take classes that I know I will pass in 1 semester so I can join right after that.
How would i do this while leaving college behind? I have just begun my third year of college in Chicago studying in the field of becoming a teacher. Am I a first generation college student? I am the oldest child so none of my siblings have gone to college. My parents went to vocational school for carpentry and mechanics. Penn Foster College online? Is there anyone that took classes with them? im looking into carpentry with them? I have read many reviews but was wondering if there are any graduates or students from the school. As mentioned i am looking into their carpentry program and wanted to see if anyone had opinions about it Well, before you laugh at my questions guy, I would like you to know that I have already got my BA from Penn State University Main Campus. I have a degree in crime law and justice, but would like to make a career change without going back to full time school because, well i have bills to pay and still need to work. I have experience in construction but would like to learn more and get some certification or degree. An online school is what i am looking for because of the convenience and ability to still work
What college degree would give the best opportunity for gaining residency in different countries? From what I have read teaching English seems to be the best path, but what else is there? I want to live and work in countries across Asia. It might sound unrealistic, but there's so many expats living and working in Asia, how are they doing it?? I won't marry someone for a visa as a shortcut. How do people get in without a degree? Do you know of any Asian countries that allow skilled migrant visas for carpentry or cabinetry?
dealing with stress while in college? i am a bit worried when i start college this next year because i feel like i am going to be under a lot of stress. why do i feel like this? because through my junior and senior year i did classes that were like college level work and i was under so much stress. i had depression beyond the chart. and i feel like once i start college it will all come back. i am going to college for carpentry.

i dont know what to do!- carpentry or drylining? just started a carpentry apprenticeship, havent done a lot of carpentry with the company im with.done a bit of drylining and i seem to like it more than carpentry, seems more active if that makes sense.ive been doing carpentry at college since september, i like it but im not great or one of the top ones.the thing is that my mates reckon that carpentry has a more secure future.my dad also doubts it, as he reckons its piss easy and he can do it no trouble. the other thing is ive looked up the average pay and drylining SEEMS to rake it in compared to carpentry, and it SEEMS to be easier to go off subying. what does have a more secure future? the company im with does a lot lot lot more drylining etc than carpentry, the other thing is im working with a mate that ive known for years so its pretty decent and we're both thinking bout doing a drylining course and becoming a qualified dliner.what would you do??? thanks alot!! helped me loads thats exactly what im gona do..monday morning quit carpentry in a decent way.gna be alota bollox from my dad n mates lol but really badly wana do drylining.thanks a lot!!!!!

What is the best health care field career choice with the easiest difficulty level for college courses? I'm asking for someone else. She is 30, with 2 kids, high school dropout (GED), wanting to go back to school for an Associate's degree and thinking of something in the health care field because the pay is good. She isn't much of a "people person" or outgoing. She likes to work with her hands and fix things and would probably prefer something like carpentry but doesn't want to struggle in a "non-traditional" field being female. She's worked as a cashier, cleaning houses, and as a truss builder for a roof truss company. She is something of a "Ms. Fixit". She's thought about forensics just because she finds it cool but isn't sure she can hack the schooling. Same with X-Ray tech... honestly, all the anatomy and chemistry and such will be challenging for her. So what other choices are there? Dental Lab Tech? Optical tech? What's going to be the easiest for someone who has more common sense than book smarts? Looking for a starting salary of at least $25k a year (US).
Can I do two full time college courses? At the moment I'm in my first year at college, studying carpentry and in September I'm going to start a second year of carpentry. But I was wondering if I'd be able to do a full time brick laying course as well. (Both at the same college) The carpentry course will be two, maybe three days a week and the brick laying course is only two days a week, so if they're not on the same days, would they let me do both? I'm guessing it'd be easier to talk to my teacher about it but I thought I'd see if anyone on here knows. Thanks. Because I'm under 18 my course is free but if I wait a couple more years, it'll cost about £400. And also next year I'll have four/five days off a week and it'll just gets boring. So I was thinking of doing an extra course so I have something to do and it'd be good for the future.

Carpentry - Doesn't get paid for bad weather conditions? I was helping my cousin make a decision on what he wanted to go to college for, but his parents were saying that people in this field don't get paid if its raining, or has bad weather conditions to where they couldn't work. How true is this? We live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, if that helps.

Where can I get the newest but possibly gently used avian vet, breeding, and building books at a good price? I want to find out more information and start to build up a library soon, and I know a reference library may not come cheap with brand new vet college books. And also other type bird books on how to build all natural cages for them if possible, what materials to use, and how to turn it into a playpen for them, and what dimensions of wood is needed with what equipment. Carpentry for birds. We have parakeets and a cockatiel and outdoor birds too.

If you were here at Job Corps, what would you do? Say that you were at Job Corps getting your cement mason trade. You've taken your GED and have qualified for Job Corps to pay for two years of community college. During those two years you'de be living there, 5 hours from home, while mom and dad are struggling with debt. Or you could take Carpentry as a second trade and be out of here in a matter of months. The sooner to get home to the parents and start making money. Carpentry or College?
I'm not sure which profession to go into carpentry or cabinet making.? What are salary ranges for both? what are the common amount of hours? Which has better opportunities? Anything you can tell me about these careers would be very helpful i have to apply for colleges next year so im trying to figure out my career path now.
POLL: Has your worst nightmare ever actually happened? Mine did today, I am at a carpentry college and I'm known to be quite organised. So, like normal, I set my bench up and lined up all the tools in place. And my tutor came up to me and said "Very neat there, Luke" and I replied: "A place for everything, and everything in it's place." Then he said "Oh, all right James May." As you could imagine, I was devastated lol.
Should middle school and high schools have specialized programs? I'm looking for opinions on this question. I believe all students should have reading and writing classes but I think middle schools and high schools should gear their studies towards specific professions. The kids who are interested in algebra and plan to use it in a career they are interested in should only have those classes, kids who want to be chemists should only have classes geared to that career, kids who want to be car mechanics should only take classes for that career etc. In other words, instead of making these students go through various general classes they would attend classes they are interested in. We need to train them for a career or job they may want when they graduate from high school. We need vocational schools for middle school and high school kids who may want to learn a specific trade. We need trade schools for those who want to learn carpentry. Many kids who know they don't want to attend college can be trained in middle school and high school so when they get out they have a plan and can go into that career without additional training. I see so many kids floundering and unsure what they want. They become fustrated and take any job just to get by or they don't work or go to school at all. Vocational programs would be beneficial to the kids and it would keep the failure and dropout rate lower. At the end of elementary school students should take aptitude tests. If there are students who don't have a specific interest in a field they would be kept in general classes. I think both the students and the teachers would be much happier.. I don't know where the funding would come from or what the cost would be to revamp the entire educational system but it is something to think about.
Choosing College Course Help? I Have to send in my college form in soon for the college course i want to apply for, My Choice was something to do with Construction, Probably Carpentry Or Vehicle Maintenance This is becoming real hard for me to which one to choose! How can an entry-level Call-Center young-guy get into the Carpentry trade/building houses in BC? This question is also somewhat an emotional outpouring reflecting the confusion and predicaments that I'm experiencing in my life recently, so I do apologize if I may be off-topic/verbose/and not making sense. I am a 24-yr old university drop-out (2 years of university, took Architecture courses) who have had a few Calling Center experiences, the biggest employer so far being TELUS. Consequently, it seems only Calling Center employers would hire me for the wage I am expecting (~$12/hr). But then again, maybe I am just afraid to try other industries...it distresses me already just ~thinking~ about the possibilities of bothers and fears of putting myself out there in job markets other than call center, expecting every field to tell me "you're no good at it; work for $8.00/hr instead". I don't know why I'm such a wimp; I apologize for being such a wimp. In fact I apologize for just being. The real problem with me is that I am basically born an artist... In addition to having sold a lot of pieces, I just love it. But you can't get a job as an artist... On top of that, I'm actually just not good with people. In every call center job I was in, I had received awards because I'm smart (i was good in school...which employers usually don't care about...but my being smart did help actually), but really, at the end of the day, I am sooo not suitable for it. I'm really good with my hands, and have done a little carpentry, and I guess my question is, how do you steer yourself away from a career path you KNOW is suicidal, and strive--without a college degree--to get into a field you have ZERO credentials/prior experience for? In other words, how do you start over? I can borrow money from my very generous parents, enough to support my living until I finish ~some~ kind of school (vocational school for carpentry maybe?). But what then? Wouldn't I be just where I was at before? A lot of my grad friends aren't doing anything with their degrees. I've been freelancing for 6 years now (a la "use day job to fund night job") for something as uselss as Fine Art which gets no money. Should I just do another 6 years of just gritting my teeth through my day job and ~wish~ my art will be promoted some day? Should I ditch art altogether as a career and just focus on something which I like which *DOES* pay the bills (e.g. carpentry). I would REALLY like to build houses (framing) for a living...that is my daydream. The first time I've done carpentry it, it was apparent to my supervisor that i was good at it, and that I LOVE it. But I am really confused (sorry)...while I know it's totally do-able, it just feels so impossible...getting into something totally brand new with no qualifications...but somthing you're actually good at, something you were actually made for. Thank you so very much for reading. p.s. I specialize in pencil portrait drawing, wood carving, and antique restoration i.e. Japanese Swords. I cannot use my prior carpentry experience on my resume, because that was in prison
I am 17 and need a Full-Time job, or a part-time job with good hours, where can i apply at? I have work experience in construction and carpentry. I do attend college on tuesdays and thursdays in the mornings but after 12:30 im free. I really need a job and any where good (airports, UPS, ect.) dont hire 17 year olds. Any ideas please
Thinking of quitting college and need advice, should i quit? I'm 18, been in college for 1 1/2 years. The first 6 months I studied basic building occupations and passed. This includes Brick laying, Carpentry, Plastering, Plumbing and Painting & Decorating. The year to follow that was an Electrical Installations course. I passed. I'm now 18 and on the level 2 Electrical course. After this year i'll have to take another year in the same subject but level 3 to be an Electrician. Now the reason I choose to take this course is because of my father, who said I couldn't be one. I'm not smart enough he said and has been saying. I spose I wanted to prove to the old git that I could. When I started I actually enjoyed it but since the summer I have lost my passion. Now the course is getting hard. I'm studying and not falling behind (yet) but it worries me I might be wasting my time. I want to quit because a lot of it I know but i don't have the experience to back it up. I'm thinking I could take the year off and go work as a skilled labourer to get my head around things and find out if the building site is for me. If I do manage to pass this course I can just call it quits and be an electricians mate and go back later if I want. I'm in a real bad spot because i'm finding 3 days at college and nothing else a god damn bore. It's driving me crazy just sitting around for 4 days not being able to get a job (recession). I asked my friends and they said if I quit now i'll regret it and be in shitty jobs the rest of my life. The other bad side is that this is my last year of FREE college and if I quit i don't get the next year free as I will no longer be a progressing student. I have been applying for jobs but the only thing I have got is a mcdonalds interview last week. I get a ring back tomorrow to see if I have it or not. mcdonalds, is this what its come to? dragging myself to college and then working in mcdonalds for the next 2 years? I have no money and my parents have shit... I mean damn I live in a squat getting hand me downs from my dad and uncle. I just want a job that pays better than minimum wage and keeps me occupied. I thought i'd ask on here because i'm still only young and most have more expierance than me (in life). P.S. The only real next step is to get an apprenticeship, i'm on a list but I don't know whats going to happen. ADVICE PLEASE?
Help me...college abuse from tutor?!!!? Im 17, male and bi...i'm out in college to everybody, including my homophobic tutor, whom is also the course head. Today I found out that he rang the mother of one of my closest friends there. Telling her lies such as, im using her daughter, and things about me getting kicked out of my last course because of violent behaviour, that's a complete lie...he knows that i left because it was carpentry and I found out that i wasn't very good at that kind of work, he also got a great Reference from my old tutors, plus im not the violent type...and to end it off, im slightly behind on my work...so he decided to put me on 1st stage disciplinary...i have a meeting about it tomorrow with him and another tutor...i don't know what to do... *ADDED* At no point has he said its about my sexuality...so i cant say to another tutor that its deffinently thatt...however thats all it could be as im nott a horrable person =\ To answer candice, my friend told me after her mum told her...thanks for the answer =]
How can I find a good career with no college degree? I'm working under the table at a pizza shop right now but its not paying the bills. In January I got laid off and it seems impossible to find any job right now, much less a good paying one that I could make into a career some day. Anyways, I dont plan on going back to college (I have my GED) and military would be my LAST resort. Are there any types of things where you can have no experience say in carpentry or construction and learn the trade while getting paid for it? Something where I can start off like an apprentice or something and then someday make this my career? I live in Syracuse, NY...times are tough..the job market sucks! I've been looking for a job for months. Where can I turn to?
What do you think is a good course for me to take in College? i struggle to almost every course!! Academic Math- good grades but i ask hundreds of questions and in College i cant be like that.. (Math is hard for me) Science - Its so boring for me.. im a dreamer and when i try to read i get soo bored.. (science aint my thing). English - I need help in Essays.. My teacher says i cant take Academic since my english is not really proper.. Business - is kinda hard and i dont want to take that since Business will be tough in the future.. hands on - my parents dont want me take like carpentry since it has a low salary... (i want a job with good salary) I want to take nursing but i think i will need science (Science is boring).. and imma dreamer when ever i get bored i will start to day dream (How weird am i)... Is there a course i can take in College that does not deal with these courses??
Do I need the SAT to go to a tech school or a college with those courses?? I am taking Carpentry in high school, I haven't asked if its okay to take that class to get into architech because I only want to design houses. So is that class good to get into architect? And do I need to take the SAT for architech or to go to any other tech school. One college Im looking at is SCAD in Savannah and there are or tech schools like ITT tech and stuff like that. Please let me know.
Becoming a cabinetmaker? Carpentry schools? I am looking for a college that has a degree or certificate in cabinet making. Does anybody know the best school to attend and gain all the knowledge necessary to come home and start building cabinets and start a business? I don't want a school that just gives you a little course in cabinetry, I want the full on instruction from A to Z. Thanks.

(im also an athlete for the school sports teams) i have experience in boating, small mechanics, small carpentry, plumbing, and operating varias types of machinery.
I'm taking the apprenticeship test to get into the IBEW. Interview in March. What qualities do they look for? I worked for a fence comapny throughout high school and while I was in college. I decided not to finish college because I realized that Psychology wasn't the field I belonged in. I've won many awards for academic performance and volunteer work for the special olympics/ habitat for humanity projects. I'm now 26 years old. My work history includes working as a shop foreman, and now as a sales manager. I transferred to a vocational high school during my sophomore year. My first choice for shops was electrical. I was accepted but got my last choice (carpentry). Now that I've gone to college and have realized what I don't want to do, I've come full circle and now want to pursue a career as a Union Electrician. What qualities will the examining board be looking for in prospective apprentices and how do I attempt to stand out from the rest?
How to get NVQ when you are self-employed? Hi, I'm learning part-time for ICA in carpentry and I am self employed as a sole trader(carpenter).Have been working as a carpenter for a company, but now they struggle to find any more contracts,so do I. At college they said, that if I want NVQ,I have to be employed. Can anybody tell me what is the best way to gain NVQ when unemployed and with low (low) budget?
help on my major in college? my dad owns a lawn maintinence business and id like to add carpentry onto it. so is there anyprograms i could take to help with that. i want to play baseball so techinical schools are out. some other things would just be like business management. i am looking at the university of toledo and they dont offer that. is there anything REALLY close to being the same?
question for college students? well im going back next year im 19 what i wanna know is that i never took carpentry in high school but i wanna get into it will they accept me if ive never taken it in high school?
Guys: Can you REALLY live on your own? I have from age 10, with the exceptions of 3 years in the Army and college dorms and roommates. But I cook, clean, do my laundry (even iron) Now celebrating 50 years living alone. Only thing lacking is companionship. I'm working on that. But, I don't need a woman or anyone else to take care of me. I would very much like to take care of someone I love. Also garden, paint houses, roof, electric, plumbing, auto repair, carpentry. So I have pretty complete household skills.
Animals, kids, and carpentry? i enjoy working with animals and i enjoy working with kids, (younger, like newborn to toddler range) i also enjoy wood working and crafting. I am in college and have no clue what i might be able to be that would incorporate all of these things. There might not be anything, but if anyone has any help. P.S. I don't really care alot about how much money i could make, as long as i would be okay to support myself and a family. Thanks to any1 that helps!
if you were going to take a college or technical class what would you take? just to learn something new or different....not to make a career. I would take carpentry because it would make a great hobby I think.
College is frustrating!!? Can anyone tell me if J. Sargent Reynolds offers a construction or carpentry course? I don't think my GPA is high enough to get into 4 year college, so I was planning on going to J. Sarge for 2 years and transferring......Just thinking about it is stressing me out!
IS age 36 or 37 too late to get into carpentry/plumbing/etc.? I have been out of work for more then a year. I am not taking advantage and in fact look everyday for work. Unfortunately for me it seems my entire working career has been in customer service which is so general that I am not getting anywhere. I was in the process of getting my degree when I got laid off and is on hold indefinitely. What I like to know is I was thinking about learning a trade. Being a carpenter, plumber, or electrician as I love anything to do with homes. My question is I will be 37 this aug, the local community college offers courses in each but is my age to old to get into those fields and I should do something else or not?
I am a college student doing social ministry. what is fact fining report and what does it entail? I am a college stundent in kenya, currently working with a church based organization (Marianist development project in Mombasa -Mbobolulu). Its a development project aimed at helping the youths especially the less fortunate to gain some skills in carpentry, catering, metalwork and hair dressing. Which is the best way forward to collect the information needed to write a fact finding report on the project, given the fact that am at the moment teaching gospel living to these stundents. What are the issues that I can tackle or write in my fact finding report of these youths. Am stuck i don't know how to start or what to include. I am glad if you helped me. Thanx.
I am considering dropping out of my four-year college and doing something that requires less education...? Are there any fulfilling, stable careers that require two years of higher education or less? Im considering carpentry, but I might regret that down the road. The reason I ask is because I am a terrible student. Im intelligent and hard working, but I cant stand my school work. I derive absolutely no satisfaction from it. My only motivation in going to class and doing my homework is impressing my parents. The career path I'm on right now leads me to social work, something I know I would enjoy, but I just cant see myself doing four more years of this. On the other hand, none of the two-year vocational programs I've looked at seem like good alternatives. They are either too unfulfilling, pay too little, or are simply not stable enough. Any suggestions?
A question for business owners? I'm 14 and I'm planning on opening my own carpentry business where I basically make anything someone wants. What classes should I take when I go to high school/college? What could I do at my age to help me with my future? What should I expect upon creating my business?
Does this cross the student teacher border? alrighty. so im 15 and my teacher is 23. we dont have like a legit relationship or anything like that but i would say we are closer than most of his other students. his best friend from high school has a little sister, and shes my best friend, just for a little background info i really think im just paranoid but I don’t want him to get in trouble or anything like that. I’m also in stage crew at school, and he goes there every week to help out, jsyk. Specific things that make me worry are: - Once me and him were up on a ladder, siding a wall. As we got higher up the ladder, we got physically closer, as a ladder is a triangle. Towards the top of the ladder (eight or ten feet I would guess) it was like 10 degrees hotter, so he proceeds to take off two of his sweatshirts, wearing just pants and a cut up tee shirt. Now on top of this ladder, I’m not scared of heights, but he wants me to lean over, away from the ladder, to screw in a piece of wood. I lost my balance and started to fall until I grabbed his bare arm and clung to it, temporarily terrified. Then he just let me hold his arm, assuring me I was safe, until I could finish siding the wall. -He handed me a screw and told me it was his gift to me and to treasure it forever. I dropped it and kept working. 10 minutes later he comes over and says “where’s your screw?” and I pointd at the floor and he told me to pick it up and keep it forever. It is now sitting on my desk. -Quoting him: 1.Me, him, and some other kids were at a table when my phone buzzed, and he goes “yo, stop vibrating!” 2.We were in stage crew and he needed some wood cut, but my head was hurting and I didn’t wanna hear the saw so I sat outside and he comes around and says “they haven’t even started cutting yet. If you were in there we would have been done five minutes ago. That’s how valued you are.” Which I thought was sweet. 3.He was chaperoning a field trip to some museum and invited me and another kid to come with him, even when we weren’t taking the class that was going 4.Has referred to me as his “shining star” multiple times 5.One day (at stage crew, where all the ‘drama’ is) when I was feeling a bit under the weather, I freaked out a wee bit about being really bad at using a drill and started to cry, and him and my two friends took me into the hall and they watched as he gave me a pep talk and said “why don’t we just go back in and ill teach you to screw?” 6.Told me I should major in carpentry in college because im “good at screwing” 7.We were putting wheels on the bottom of a platform, when he looks up at me and says “wanna screw?” and proceeds to hand me a drill. I know most of it is just word play and him being helpful But some of my friends make fun of me for it And they think hes a pedo When hes really not. I know this is long, but I appreciate all feedback. Thank youuu! also once there was a huge party at one of the seniors houses for dinner and everyone ran outside and drove away so he drove me and my friend to the party. (were freshman). he also really seems to care about my well-being (emotional and physical) whether its me specifically or just because im a little girl, i have no idea. i put him down as a reference on a job app i turned in, and he always bugs me about it, curious about the job and asks me if i got it or not. i needed his phone number and house address, and he gave me the school number and address. which makes him not a pedo. many of the things that he had said about screwing, he meant actually with a drill. the reason he drove us to the dinner was because had he not, we would have been alone at the school at night, and with no dinner. through all of this, he is still someone who i regard with a lot of respect and trust, one of my favorite teachers i have ever had. this is so complicatedd, ahhhh. i seriously need to get a life other than editing this. once he was holding a long piece of wood and accidently smacked me in the face with it, apologizing profusely all day. on monday he told me that he wanted to send me an apology email but didnt, cause he didnt wanna be a creep. i really do see him as more of a big brother than anything, honestly.
i have a chance to study a vocational skill, should i go for automotive technology or building trades tech? Building Trades Technology (which includes carpentry, HVAC, electricity, plumbing, and remodeling and repair) OR Automotive Technology?? I want the one that will give me the best short term job while i finish up my degree in college. The one that will pay the best/best opportunity/best job quality/opportunity for the future in general. Best skill to learn now that might be usefull later. So which one?! Ok, well to give more details, I am a female studying engineering and might possible switch to chemistry/biochemistry/or nursing. These are both skills ive always been interested in (building and auto) and I don't even know the bare minimum basics when it comes to cars, so i'd have to learn it all.
What do you tell a friend who's dating the wrong guy? I have a friend who is dating the wrong guy. He's homeless and sleeps in her car, he swears excessively, he has no money and is borrowing money from her. He has yet to pay her back. This would all be fine if he did not have a bad history. This guy has a really bad record and can't even go to the high school prom because it's so bad. He's been in situations with guns. He's sexually assaulted someone. He's doing carpentry right now and not in college(I don't have a problem with people not going to college but he's really not doing anything with his life.) In the end he's just the completely wrong guy for my friend and she does not want to realize it? So what do I say to her? Please don't answer with one liners like "Tell her how you feel lolZ!!!". What should girls be looking for in a guy normally?
If one has no education past 8th grade but is highly qualified, what should I put under education if at all? My father has been doing HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical work, and Carpentry since 1987, but never went to high school or college because of situations back home. He is a legal citizen, but never had the time to get a GED or anything like that because he was busy working to support his family. He is now trying to apply for a job with a company that does heating and cooling work. Most of these usually require a high school diploma.
How to start an Apprenticeship? I have been looking into what I want to do for a career. I have come to the conclusion that Carpentry is something that interests me. But I don't know much about how to go about starting an apprenticeship in Carpentry. Would I have to find an employer myself before enrolling in a course at a college? I live in Ontario Canada, I know it varies everywhere. If someone could tell me the basics that would be great! Thanks in advance!
I'm 36 and need a career change, and suggestions? I'm male, been in a small town factory for 15 years, and need something else. I have no post hs education, except for carpentry. I'd like to start a business, but don't know what to sell. Or maybe go to college for something.
Do you find this true? Females don't have as much job opportunities without college as men do. Men can get jobs from trades or they don't need to go to college for plumbing, carpentry, etc.
strating a trade in australia? does anyone know the cut of age for starting a carpentry trade in australia do colleges and employees take you at any age?
Do I really have OCD? Somebody suggested this week that I have mild OCD. It was in college, I study in carpentry and when I get my tools ready on the bench I always line them up and put them in the same place. And my mate sharing the same bench said have you got OCD or something? And then I thought about it back home then, and I think I have. Lots of things, like, the things on my desk have to be symetrical, such as the speakers have to be in line with eachother. ALL doors have to be shut behind me. The stuff on the coffee table has to be neat, and dont get me started on the tool set in my car. Would you say this is OCD or am I just organised? Serious answers only please. Alice - I dont necessarily flip out, but if someone came along in college and moved my tools around (which they often do to take the mick) I will just tut and say "oh dont do that" and stop what im doing to sort them all out. D - It doesn't really bother me. I was just interested to know if it was OCD. SadieSkelter - I think I agree with you when you say it's a like thing rather than a need thing. Although, I hate it when people come along and mess it up.
I have a BA in Art and Film already. I'm almost 30. I want to go back to school? Should I? I was thinking of going into interior architecture for the purposes of set design and construction for film and/or stage theatre. Is there any way to go about this without tracking down more funding for more college? Does anyone know of how to get into carpentry as a young woman without feeling intimidated by all the men that dominates the industry?
What other options do I have besides getting a BA? A BA is great and everything, but I don't see the purpose of taking so many of the "required" (and expensive) courses if you don't need to for your profession. I am looking for a residential campus with state college-like fees, and a decent reputation. I don't want to waste time and money on a four year liberal arts degree if I don't need it. What are other options? I don't see any, especially since I'm not studying a trade like carpentry or culinary arts.
Colleges in San Diego? Is there a college in San Diego that majors in Architecture? Like also has things like Carpentry & Photography..
Help me solve this math question? This was a question on a recent carpentry test I took. I have never seen a problem like this, and I took college calculus! 59 degrees, 13 feet, 7 inches - 27 degrees, 24 feet, 9 inches How on earth do you solve this? How I wrote the question is exactly how it appears on the test. In fact, I am looking at it right now. It also says feet and inches, and yes, the degrees is with a degree symbol (of which I do not have on my keyboard). Perhaps the creator of the test and whoever typed it were not on the same page.
