Any carpenters in Windsor, Ontario...?price to put an opening in a wall?

I had a previous question about putting an opening in an interior wall of my house between the kitchen and livingroom...sort of like a breakfast/ bar opening, to create a bigger living space...about 5' x 2 1/2' or so, and then making a simple shelf/counter there. Right now there is panelling covering both sides of the wall, when I push on the panelling, feels like there is a solid wall behind it but not too sure. And I want to try to figure out if it is bearing or not. My house is a 2 storey, with this wall being above the basement. Is there a way to figure out if bearing or not without tearing everything apart? What would the approximate cost be to do all this? Are there any carpenters from the Windsor, Ontario area out there??
