Learning Carpentry

Are American Carpenters and Electricians going to Iraq and other countries to help rebuild?

I always hear about how they are asking carpenters or electricians to volunteer to go to Iraq or another 3rd world country for a couple months to help rebuild, then coming home and receiving money for it. Is this true because I have only heard through word of mouth? Where can I find out about this, and what exactly are the qualifications?

  1. Yes, and they are well paid!
  2. yes, they are already over there, coming back and going over again.
  3. Sounds like a missionary project but you don't get paid for those, now there is some Charity's that pays you some but it barely covers what you spend off shore. You can get a contractor job with some company's but they are usually a 1 year open ended contract these pay very well.
  4. yes they are and getting paid well too
  5. Go to KBR website. They get paid well and are civilian contractors on US bases over there. It is a one year contract with the bulk of your pay given to you at the end of your year. That way they can kind of give you a reason to stay the full year. We had several contractors in Ramadi with us and they got shelled and mortared daily just like we did. It is not a walk in the park and if you get captured while in transit you are not military so the military will not give your rescue a very high priority.
