How much do carpenters charge to lay hardwood flooring?
I'm thinking of getting a hardwood flooring laid but I have no idea how much it will cost. I'm trying to save up and feel a little embarrassed to keep ringing carpenters for quotes when I still have no idea if I'll be able to afford it at all (I always feel a little obliged to buy...!) Does anyone have any idea how much it'll cost?

- a good chippy will charge around £20.00 per hour, if the job doesn't come to a full day he may charge you a minimum charge of 1 day's money unless he can fit you in with other small jobs.
- 1. Measure your sq. feet 2. Log on to http://www.lumberliquidators.com and see how much the wood would cost from them. 3. Get 3 quotes from locale people and go with the best one. 4. You can also ask people you know for references or even check out http://www.angieslist.com
- Don't worry get a few quotes only a bad chippie will try to get you to buy. I charge £12.50 per sqm for nail down £15 per sqm for glue down or Elastilion both include fitting threshold strips & beading, skirting boards are an extra cost but no more than £6 per liner metre for the flooring itself prices start at £20 and go as far as £100 at the top end, you can get cheaper but it tends to be poor russain oak
- We had ours fitted recently in Angus, Scotland. 31 boxes plus the underlay and beading. £250.00 for the fitting in the living room and hallway. That was through Carpetwise. DON'T pay until you are satisfied with the job. It took us 3 weeks to get problems sorted because the seller does not employ the joiner, they are paid directly by you.
- I'm a Carpenter and charge £25 per m square. plus vat. Minimum charge £200 plus vat
- I'm out of the game now but it will cost you an arm and a leg if he uses secret nailing (a must), why not try yourself, you will need a try square, a fine toothed saw, a claw hammer and a good punch. You position the wood strips where you intend fixing them then drive a nail into the wood right in the corner between the tongue and the shoulder at a bit of an angle. send the nail in the last bit by using the hammer and punch and stop once the nail head is below the surface, use a scrap piece of wood against the strip you are fixing to squash it tightly to the last piece. If you can't hire some floor cramps then wedge off an adjacent wall. not a job to be rushed so sit a while and think it out before starting... good luck and I hope I've been of some help................. I have given these tips thinking you mean real hardwood strip flooring but on reading other answers I se they are talking about pretend hardwood flooring, a different beast. The pretend plywood flooring is simple to lay following the free instructions given by the manufacturers no nails needed other than an odd panel pin. Go for it, send the wife out so she won't learn bad language when you make a mess and be lounging in the best armchair when she comes back with another project in mind. Gently throttle her this time....................
- i can get you the best maple wood flooring in the north west £20 1sq yard plus £20 fitting per 1sq yard depending on how mutch & where you live
